Faces in front of the camera

A name on a glass plate—often, that was all that remained. Who is looking back at us? Who are the people on these glass plates? Between 1909 and 1938, over 1,800 people—both Jewish and non-Jewish residents of Leipzig—had their portraits taken at the Mittelmann Photo Studio. Since 2023, the Mittelmann Photo Archive has been researching and documenting the fates and biographies of those portrayed—thanks to the dedication and support of many individuals. Some of these life stories are presented here.
