The photo possibly depicts Beer and Bertha Sudowicz or one of their adult daughters with her boyfriend. How do we know that?
Abram Mittelmann had many Jewish clients. The name “Sudowicz” is written on this photo’s glassine sleeve. There is only one entry in registration records under this name that can be linked to this couple. Michael W. Schoenemann and his publication “Januar 1933: Das jüdische Leipzig, eine Rekonstruktion” are an important source as well.

Beer was born on August 24, 1889, in Pyzdry in present-day Poland. In Leipzig, he worked as a textile raw materials sales representative. He managed to emigrate to Palestine in 1933, where he died shortly thereafter in May 1934.
His wife Bertha (née Fechenbach) was born on July 18, 1890, in Bad Mergentheim. In 1912 and 1914, their daughters Felice and Miriam Ruth were born in Lützen. Later, the family lived at various addresses, including 2 Kickerlingsberg, near the Zoo.
In the year 1935, Bertha Sudowicz presumably emigrated to Palestine with her children. Thanks to a “Wiedergutmachungsfahren” (a reparation project) in 1959, we know that she must have lived in Tel Aviv. Bertha Sudowicz passed away in 1976.
